Student testimonials

 "I'm definitely not a fan for Finance, however a friend of mine encouraged me to take on Mr. Daniel's class and this changed my perception about the subject, Finance can be fun and I have truly benefited from the course. Mr. Daniel is humorous and his way of teaching ensures understanding so that we do not study blindly but make sense of what we are learning.."

Juliana Deo

 "I was very into investing and I understood back then that I needed a good lecturer who can truly decipher and explain finance in great detail and in a simple to understand manner. Mr Daniel definitely way exceeded my expectations - he made finance alive and beautiful. Even till now, I still feel very grateful for Mr Daniel - I am still keeping all the materials and notes and I still read them once in a while. He is 10/10 for sure.."

  • I am not able to finish all the questions. Why? Poor time management - How do you overcome this?;
  • The syllabus is so wide. Which topics should one concentrate on?
  • I provided the numerical answer but did not get marks - it could be poor structuring of numerical answer - not to report format;
  • Inadequate balance between performing calculations and presenting discursive narrative;
  • Not reading the requirements of the question and therefore answering the question incorrectly.

Financial Management (FM) covers a range of important topics, such as the financial environment, investment evaluation, cost of capital, capital structure, financing sources, dividend policy, working capital management, risk management, and business value.

Advanced Financial Management (AFM) builds on these topics and covers additional areas, such as stakeholder responsibility, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, the international business environment, multinational organizations, and emerging issues.

To excel in AFM, students should have a strong understanding of FM and be able to apply their knowledge, techniques, and skills to real-world problems and issues. They should also be knowledgeable about the global economic environment and how international institutions impact trade and financial markets. In order to succeed in AFM, it is important for students to have a well-rounded understanding of the subject and be able to demonstrate an integrated approach by applying their knowledge from other areas.

Section A
Section A will always be a single 50 mark case study.

The 50 marks will comprise of 40 technical marks and 10 professional skills marks. All of the professional skills will be examined in Section A.
Candidates should understand that they will be expected to undertake calculations, draw comparison against relevant information where appropriate, analyse the results and offer recommendations or conclusions as required.

Financial managers are required to look across a range of issues which affect an organisation and its finances, so candidates should expect to see the case study focus on a range of issues from at least two syllabus sections from A - E.

These will vary depending on the business context of the case study. Section A questions will ask candidates to produce a response in a specific format, for example a report to the Board of Directors.

Section B
Section B will consist of two compulsory 25 mark questions.

All section B questions will be scenario based and contain a combination of calculation and narrative marks. There will not be any wholly narrative questions. The 25 marks will comprise of 20 technical marks and 5 professional skills marks.

Section B questions will contain a combination of professional skills appropriate to the question. Each question will contain a minimum of two professional skills from Analysis and Evaluation, Scepticism and Commercial Acumen.

All topics and syllabus sections will be examinable in either section A or section B of the exam, but every exam will have question(s) which have a focus on syllabus sections B and E. Total 100 marks

Yes, as long as the conclusion makes sense based on the figures provided, credit will be given. Candidates must provide complete workings and present them well, as credit will be given for the approach taken, even if an early error causes the entire calculation to be incorrect. The majority of the marks can be awarded if the approach is correct.

It is entirely up to you to select an answer option. When performing detailed calculations, it makes sense to do so in a spreadsheet. To maximise the professional marks awarded, the non-calculation parts of the report in question 1 should be completed in the word processing tool.

The spreadsheet tool in the examination includes the NPV, IRR, and MIRR functions. You will be given a separate spreadsheet space where you can calculate Black Scholes option pricing model values based on inputs you provide. You can practise using these in the practise platform's spreadsheet tool.
